Autumn Maple Leaf Crowns

The hills are peaking out right now in our part of the world ~ alive with blazing, glorious shades of Autumn.
One morning recently, I woke up and realized that today was the day we needed to drop everything and just spend the day admiring, collecting and playing with (and in) these firey leaves...knowing that soon the trees will be bare and the majestic display will be over. So we headed out for a "celebrate the leaves" day!  The activity the girls enjoyed most was making and wearing these maple leaf crowns.

These crowns seemed to transport them into a space of spritely royalty...the queens of Autumn!

Luna crowned herself  crimson zahra

and Solana scarlett gold

~ To make these ~

collect an assortment of colorful maple leaves

cut off the tip of the stem

fold your next leaf in half

poke your cut stem through the folded leaf, threading it in and out

continue with cutting the end of each stem, folding, then poking and threading

until it is the right size to fit ~ then connect the two ends in the same manner.

You can then slide your favorite leaf into the front of the crown  for the crown's finishing touch!

Such immense gratitude for these stunning fall days

Delicious autumn!  My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.  ~George Eliot

Enjoy!

  4. If you have never seen Andy Goldsworthy's art you should. Your leaf flower reminds me of it. He works only with nature and limited tools to create utter magic. He has a documentary SO worth watching. He lives in Scotland with his family.

Lovely fall art... thanks for sharing.

  19. Tried and failed. =( I couldn't actually poke through the leaf with the stem, so I got a pin and poked the holes and then threaded. But the crown kept falling apart. =( Maybe the leaves were too small and/or soft?

Whether it's for the holidays, birthdays, or just because someone is special to you, sometimes it can feel like there are too many people to say "thank you" to.
